CYLINDER HEAD MEASUREMENT PROCEDURES

The objectives of this exercise are:

• Students create a series of web pages consisting of:

· Digital pictures of cylinder head components

· Students engaging in measuring and manipulating measurements of cylinder head components

· Student created Narratives on precision-measuring the head: describing the measurement device, how it is used, and why it is being used to measure that particular component of the cylinder head.

· Hyper-Links on the narratives to pictures that were taken to meet the above criteria

• To have an understanding of fractions and decimals and to be able to understand tolerances (Variations allowed in measurement of a part or piece -or- range of deviation from accepted true measurements) and conclude what corrective methods are necessary in the engine machining process.

After completing this exercise the student should be able to:

1. Compare actual measurements to factory specifications (Start Here)

2. Convert fractions to decimals

3. Convert decimals to fractions

· Spreadsheet Applications

· Worksheet to complete

4. Determine cylinder head machining process after calculating measurements.

5. Have an understanding of tolerances.
