Schedule for November/December

Dear Novice Teachers,


Tuesday, November 9

Meet: Report to room 16 Edu., the computer lab. field teammates should gather together and share no more than 2 computers per team.

12:20 - 1:00 Sharing of technology enhanced lessons - not spontaneous sharing as indicated on syllabus. Any students who wish have an opportunity to benefit all by facilitating a small part of a hands-on lesson or demonstration that they have used or observed. Any remaining time will be used to share highlights of your teaching experiences.

1:00 - 2:00 Introduction to the take-home test (and basic Power Point). The test will NOT be on text evaluation and planning but instead it will provide you an opportunity to synthesize theory and practice and contribute to your portfolio. Test is due on Nov. 16.

2:10 - 2:40 Power Point practice. Students familiar with Power Point are invited to demonstrate their expertise to the instructors as they assist classmates. They may then depart to work elsewhere. The TEAM 10-15 minute Power Point-assisted presentations of EFE - hopefully illuminated by the take-home test - begin on Tuesday Nov. 16. In order, the teams presenting Nov. 16 will be those who worked with mentors Jones, Meyers, Smith, Harmon, Fletcher, and Hardig.

2:40-2:50 Journal Reflections Assignment: Take-home test. Original and a copy Due Nov. 16.

Meet: Room 2 Edu 12:20 (I'll check the time to make sure) Whole Group EOL


Tuesday, Nov. 16

Meet: Room 385 Edu.

12:20- 12:30 Collect hardcopy of take-home test and discuss next steps. 12:30 - 1:15 EFE Presentations (with PP) by Jones, Meyers, Smith teams 1:25 - 1:55 Mathematics Exploration with manipulatives 1:55 - 2:40 EFE Presentations ( with PP) by Harmon, Fletcher, and Hardig teams 2:40 - 2:50 Journal Reflections Assignment: Complete items 4-7 in portfolio specifications in good draft form DUE on webboard by noon Nov. 18. [Yes, there is reason to the madness. ]


Thursday, Nov. 18

* Pick up graded take-home test from Bridget or Lecretia.

Meet: Room 2 Edu.

12 NOON: Meet with field coordinators. Bring any items that you might want to share with coordinator.... e.g., a polished lesson. You should be prepared to share ideas from your synthesis of theory and practice AND from items 4-7 in portfolio specifications AND to ask questions. Assignment: Write a synthesis of theory and practice paper for your portfolio. Use the test sections recommended as the basis for the paper. DUE in hardcopy and on webboard before Thanksgiving. ALSO, find a hardcopy of a lesson intended for your presentation portfolio that you will bring to class on the 23rd.

Meet: Room 385 Edu.

12:20- 12:30: Discuss meeting with student teaching coordinators

12:30 - 1:00: EFE Presentations (with PP) by Stovall and Kintzel teams

1:00 - 1:45: Mathematics Exploration with manipulatives

1:55 - 2:15: Pre student teaching interview & hardcopy portfolio discussion

2:15 - 2:40" Triad worksession - readying lesson plans for hardcopy presentation portfolio

2:40 - 2:50: Journal Reflections Assignment: Gather supplies for hardcopy portfolio and have a great Thanksgiving

Meet: Room 385

12:20 - 1:20: The mathematics in knottedness

1:20 - 1:45: Behavior Management techniques

1:55 - 2:40: Triad work on portfolio lessons //

2:40 - 2:50: Journal Reflections Assignment: Post editing comments to triad team on #2, 4-7 on webboard. DUE Dec. 2. Submit #1 and 10 to webboard. DUE Dec. 2. Prepare hardcopy of #3 and bring to class on Dec. 7.
