CI 330ms class

To make sure that you are all okay about the assignments, I am EXTENDING
THE DUE DATE for this week's work until next Monday, Feb 1. This should
give you enough time to track down another journal (other than the Middle
School Journal). One other suggestion: School Science and Mathematics will
have some relevant articles.

I have had a couple of questions about assignments for Monday.
Here is my earlier note....
Please note: 
1) Apparently, the UI Library does not yet subscribe to 'Teaching
Mathematics in the Middle School'. Disappointing----it is very new...too
new, I guess.
As an alternate source, please look for other journals for
teachers...whether middle school or not. A major goal for this assignment
is to acquaint you some with what journals are out there.
If this assignment is too vague, don't worry. We will discuss next Monday
and you can have a time extension to complete this assignment.
A suggestion: Look for copies of the NCTM Journal for elementary school..it
used to be called 'The Arithmetic Teacher' and is now called (something
like) 'Teaching mathematics to young children'. I am sorry, I am writing
this on the road..don't have my references handy.
2) Your favorite website for  teaching: How/when to report the URL
This is the topic for JE 2. I don't need the URL until JE2 is due next week
(Feb 5).
3) Addendum...don't read it cover to cover. Go over the main points. Each
of you will be teaching a topic from this...I will assign general page
numbers for each of the six groups.
4) To enroll in the class
Several of you are not yet officially enrolled. Please send me an e-mail
message giving your sign-on info (your official name, etc., as is to appear
on UI Direct.)
Please don't hesitate to let Nick or me know if you have more questions.
Remember...if you have a question, the chances are good that at least a few
others in the class have the same or similar question. So do each other a
favor by asking !
