CI 330 students
Since there is a lot going on in the class (goes with meeting only once a
week), let me summarize what is due, when.
Friday, Feb 5
JE2 "My favorite website'
Monday, Feb 8
SGT I: First lesson to teach--you have six minutes
Bring completed lesson plan (hand in to me after class)
Provide hands-on materials as appropriate for your lesson (you know, coffee
cans, dice, etc.) in sufficient quantities for your small group.
You are encouraged to communicate with your small group as you finalize
your teaching for next week. Communicate ! Collaborate ! Coordinate !
BR I: First biblio review. Upload to your folder at the class website.
Review the Illinois Learning Standards, especially the introductory
material, pages iv to vii.
LA I (Lab Activity I)
For this activity, you are only required to calculate (using the method on
page 69 of Data and Chance) the standard deviation of each of the sets of
data on page 68 of Data and Chance. That is, find the standard deviation
(SD) of the longevity of the light bulbs from Company A, from Company B and
from Company C. Submit to your folder at the website in a format something
like:
SD Company A = __ hours
SD Company B = __ hours
SD Company C = __ hours.
And if you give the extra credit question a try, include it in your
submission.
Hour Exam I
Next week, I will give some info about what will be on this exam. It will
require you to be familiar with the major ideas (themes), not the
nitty-gritty details, of the NCTM Standards (as handed out in class) the IL
Learning Standards (as handed out last night) and of Data and Chance.
I don't expect you to be familiar with all of the details of each addendum,
but with the 'big ideas', which I will outline next week for Data and Chance.
Let me know of questions, concerns, etc. I am very encouraged by your hard
work and good ideas, and look forward to seeing great teaching going on
next Monday evening ! kjt
