Chapter One
Measurement is never error free; an important part of
measurement is to find ways to reduce the error (but we can't eliminate it)
Chapter Two
Measured quantities (like temperature) are on a continuous scale (not step by step) two different measuring devices (like thermometers) used side by side may not agree (in fact, if used carefully, the devices will NOT agree)
Please read carefully the example of the amount of gold in an object (might be expressed in carats). the big idea here is that errors may be viewed as being either too high or two low, with equal likelihood. (this is a BIG idea in measurement...the big errors and little errors may be assumed, under careful conditions, to cancel out each other).
