It turns out that the average daily temperatures over all twelve months for Seattle and Salt Lake City are nearly identical. (I think that it is around 55 degrees-but not sure.)

Question: How would you expect the mean (average) deviation of the daily temperatures in these two cities to compare? Explain your answer.

1) The birthday problem
What are the chances that in a group of say 25 persons (chosen randomly) at least two were born on the same day of the year ?

2) The birth month problem
What are the chances that in a group of say, 4 persons, at least two were born in the same month ?

3) The new neighbors
A family with three children is moving in next door. Your son says, ' I sure hope that there is a boy to play with'. What are the chances that the new neighbors have at least one boy ?
