Design Considerations
Mathematical Investigations:
The curriculum plan is organized around
a selected number of important mathematical content and process goals,
each of which is studied in depth.
Connections:
The curriculum plan emphasizes significant
connections between mathematics and student's real life experiences that
are meaningful to students.
Teaching for Understanding:
The instruction in this curriculum plan
emphasizes inquiry and discovery of mathematical ideas through the investigation
of rich problem situations. It helps students grow in their ability to
reason effectively with information represented in graphic, numeric, symbolic,
and verbal forms and to move flexibly among these representations.
Technology:
The curriculum plan involves the use
of Internet, Geometer's Sketchpad, spreadsheet, and graphic calculator.
These tools help students understand mathematics by means of visualization,
manipulation, and experimentation. With the help of technology, students
also apply their knowledge to problem-solving tasks.
