For Students
When we were in college, our professor usually told us, "you learn math
by doing math." What he meant at that time was to do a lot of exercises
and challenging problems. However, moving into the 21st century, we have
different view of learning math. We still believe that doing math is the
best way of learning math, but "doing math" is to get your own hands on
and explore and manipulate mathematics. With the help of modern technology,
especially the dynamic software tools, you'll have the great opportunity
to visualize abstract math concepts, explore mathematical relations, and
test your theories by manipulate certain components and observe the changes
you make. We hope you enjoy learning with technology.
In addition, we would like to add two things. You also learn math by
"saying" and "writing" math. We hope you and your group members build a
collaborative learning team in which you can talk about math, exchange
ideas, and work together on the projects. In addition, your teacher will
also ask you to write down your conjectures based on your exploration and
observation. You may also be asked to write a summary for the learning
activity you just go through or write a story about a statistical graph.
Hey, don't panic. This is the great opportunity for you to reflect on your
own learning and try to use mathematical terms to express yourself.
We hope you enjoy learning math. :-)
