Today's class was a potpuri of topics.  After uploading our class papers up to the class website we talked about the idealism of Nell Noddings with respect to people's dispositions, student mobility and bad teachers.  The view of bad teachers led to a discussion of how teachers should be judged in general.  The class came to the conclusion that teacher tenure would be antithetical to Noddings' ethic of caring.  We also discussed class size, teacher and student motivation and student-teacher trust all in terms of the ethic of caring that Noddings espouses. We also talked about some hot social topics such as population control, sex and religion and who should have the first shot/chance of broaching this subject with students:  parents or teachers?

Toward the end of class we delved into some discussion concerning "Beyond Problem Solving:  Problem Posing" (Moses, et. al).  A general issue was brought up about everything being about the self, more specifically about the nature of knowledge and when do people begin to create knowledge.  The concensus of the class seems to be that knowledge is more than just facts but rather application of those facts in new and creative ways.
